Design for
Manufacturability.
Optimizing part geometry to maximize efficiency, consistency, and quality in high-volume production.
The Importance of Design
The process of plastic injection molding is designed to produce precision parts at a low cost. However, efficiency starts with design. Without optimizing for the molding process, costly defects can occur.
At Rodon, we ensure that every design is hardened for high-volume manufacturing. By considering wall thickness, draft angles, and rib placement upfront, we eliminate processing mistakes before the mold is ever cut.
Key Design Elements
Wall Thickness
Uniform thickness prevents warping and sinking. Thicker areas are cored out to maintain consistency and ensure even cooling.
Rib & Boss Design
Ribs provide strength without adding bulk. We calculate optimal ratios (50-70% of wall thickness) to avoid sink marks.
Gate Placement
Strategically placed gates ensure the mold fills completely and minimizes visible flow marks on the aesthetic surfaces.
Our Engineering Advantage
Our design engineers have over 25 years of experience using advanced software like SolidWorks to solve complex manufacturing challenges. We ask the hard questions:
- How will the part be used in the final assembly?
- What are the tensile and environmental requirements?
- Can this geometry be produced at scale (1M+ units)?
